Buxton Pudding Emporium

*Adding one additional star for Clare only!* We went in an hour before the cafe closed. The woman on the register in the store was (sadly) abrupt when we entered, and difficult thereafter. Beyond the initial "silent welcome", it was extremely confusing what food they were still offering. We came in for a Buxton Pudding (at the Buxton Pudding Emporium), but we were told when we went up to order that it was in fact only three types of cold cake available. The register/store and the kitchen/cafe are separated in terms of layout, meaning the register is not directly visible from the kitchen. When we spoke to the kitchen attendant who was serving people, she told us in no uncertain terms that the cakes could be warmed, and we could indeed have the Buxton pudding (or a number of other puddings) if we so chose. It seemed like this was an ongoing issue, and she went to deal with the person on the till. We thought that perhaps it was because we were tourists, but then it happened to another two tables, including a table of people who lived locally. If I heard them correctly, they seemed to suggest that the person on the register was like this often. They were also told it was only the cakes, and so they ordered a ginger cake. The kitchen attendant offered to warm it up for them, as they told her they hadn't been given the option. Clare (I believe that was the name of the kitchen attendant) was lovely and warm, and exactly what we'd expect of the best of Buxton. The Buxton pudding was a treat. Such a shame to have so much drama, awkwardness and cold atmosphere diminish the experience! I appreciate the person on the register may have been having a bad day, or they may have been short staffed, but they have to bear in mind someone may have been waiting all year for a particular weekend break in Buxton, and they really let themselves and the town down by being unnecessarily difficult.

Delicious puddings and exceptional service. Went above and beyond so we could have our puddings and coffee to take away while we waited outside due to my friend’s reactive dog. They were incredibly understanding and accommodating, which was hugely appreciated

An exquisite, bijou coffee and gift shop. An excellent outlet for high quality biscuits, and cake. Very friendly staff, excellent service.

Fabulous Christmas food, perfect for treats and gifts. Beautifully decorated shop. Friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend.
