Called into Harlequin Coffee Shop on a recent trip to York — it’s tucked away on the first floor so easy to miss, but worth heading upstairs. Good quality coffee, quick service, and a nice independent feel compared to the chains nearby. A solid stop if you’re in the city and want somewhere a bit different for a drink or bite to eat.

Stopped into Harlequin Coffee Shop while visiting York and it was exactly what you want from an independent coffee spot. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and the coffee itself was excellent — properly brewed, full of flavour, and clearly made with care. It’s refreshing to find a place that feels genuinely local rather than tourist-focused, with a cosy setting that makes you want to stay for another cup. The food selection was strong too, with good quality ingredients and plenty of choice whether you want something light or more substantial. If you’re looking for a proper independent coffee shop in York rather than a chain, this is definitely worth a visit. I’ll be back next time I’m in the city.

We stumbled upon this gem for lunch. Beautifully fresh sandwiches and a good size pot of tea. Very reasonably priced and the staff were all friendly and attentive.

Pleased we found this place . Nice food and all very fresh. It's obviously popular with the locals and the place was very busy when we went but the service was prompt.
