Almost nailed the Japanese aesthetic but completely left out manners. Maddest experience I’ve ever had! Came in on our last day in town and had been wanting to try this place all weekend as it’s very inviting. Sat down and as we had come in from the rain took a few minutes too settle , we couldn’t decide if we were having cake / coffee /matcha so in the meantime ordered a tea while we warmed up. Tea was brought to us - a tea bag and some hot water. We decided to ask for another cup and were refused another one - flat out refused! The owner(?) started on some rant about one drink per a person rule and bla bla bla but we didn’t bother too listen,finished the tea and left. Regardless of the fact that we were planning on ordering more it seems incredibly insane and poor business sense to try and control what people purchase. Japanese tea culture is built on the philosophy of Omotenashi, which translates to "wholehearted hospitality." In a real Japanese tea setting, the host’s only goal is to anticipate the guest's needs before they even ask - so I guess the owner doesn’t really take this seriously! I’m really glad we visited this place last otherwise our experience in Scarborough would have been tarnished by this bad vibe.Luckily everywhere else everyone was very friendly and accommodating!

Tokyo Star is a masterclass in coffee shop design and a total afternoon sanctuary. The aesthetic is so curated and calm that your heart rate feels like it drops ten beats the moment you walk in—it’s the perfect antidote to the midday rush. While the "cool" factor is high, they don't sacrifice comfort or quality. The sofas are incredibly plush (the kind you can actually sink into), but the coffee is the real standout. It’s genuinely fantastic—expertly pulled, full-bodied, and clearly made by people who treat coffee as a craft rather than just a caffeine kick. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to reset or a top-tier brew, this is a sophisticated spot that delivers on every level.
