We stumbled upon Early Bird The Bread Stand while travelling through Kuroshio, and it was such a happy discovery. It's a small, family-run place with a lovely, friendly atmosphere. The couple who run it are so welcoming and work together seamlessly – the husband bakes and cuts the bread while his wife handles the register . The bread is the real star. I bought a loaf of their plain shokupan, and the texture was unlike any bread I've had before – it's incredibly light, with a clean, crisp bite when toasted . Their raisin bread was also a surprising favourite. I also had the French toast set at the cafe, which was divine: thick, fluffy bread with a natural sweetness, served with fresh vegetables and thick-cut bacon . Just be aware that they're only open from 9 am to 2 pm Tuesday to Saturday, and they often sell out, especially of the shokupan . It's best to get there early or, if you're coming from out of town, pre-order by phone. A truly special place for bread lovers.
