Have a tenant in a granny annex attached to my home. Last week they started blowing the mains fuse every time they turned on a bedroom light. They had a rat in the ceiling space last month that we put poison down for, figure rat chewed through insulation of wires to overhead light. No access except through light. Called PNG Electrical asking if someone could come soon. Told following day (Thursday) at 14:15. At 14:15 Thursday, we were telephoned by PNG to say electrician held up in traffic, should be there by 15:15, at 16:20 he arrived. He spent 10-15 minutes in the annex and reported to me “short in the wires to overhead light in bedroom, probably chewed through by rat. Can’t access from crawl space, will need to go through ceiling in room (same story I told PNG when I booked an electrician to fix it). I asked can you fix it then? He replied, not here to fix it, only to assess the situation. Someone will telephone you tomorrow to book the repair. Friday came and went without a call from PNG. I called Saturday and they were closed. I waited till mid-morning Monday, still no call, so telephoned them. They said sorry about not calling you Friday, oversight. Or this morning either, I said. Very unprofessional. I then told her I’ve arranged for someone else to do the job, I won’t be wanting anything more to do with them. Then asked if I was still going to be charged for the service (what there was of it). She said she would call me back. I received a call back a short while latter. She said the electrician said they’d have to take down the light, fix the short and suggests replacing our perfectly good lamp with a new LED lamp (from them of course). I said no thanks, I didn’t want them for anything else. I just received an invoice for £100.20 from PNG for services rendered!
